Standing With Survivors,
Ending SGBV

ABOUT US: A MOVEMENT FOR A SAFER ZAMBIA

Action Against Sexual Violence (AASEV) is a Zambian non-governmental organization born from a collective national outcry. We emerged as a social movement in response to the staggering rise in sexual violence cases and a medical, counselling and justice system failing survivors
Our journey began not in a boardroom with available resources, but on the streets, with marches across four provinces delivering petitions to the government and sending a serious message to perpetrators that we will no longer stand aside and watch SGBV go unchallenged, and a shared conviction that silence is complicity. From these grassroots origins, we have progressed into a registered, professional organization with a clear, integrated strategy to confront sexual violence at its roots.
Our Vision
A Zambia where every individual lives free from sexual violence, with universal access to justice, support, and empowerment, and where communities promote human rights, dignity and safety for all.
Our Mission
To create a Zambia free from sexual violence by addressing underlying root causes through raising awareness, ensuring justice and support for victims, lobbying for institutional reform and promoting collaboration among the government, CSO’s and the community.
What makes us different: Our Four Pillar Methodology
We believe that ending sexual violence requires more than a single solution. That is why we built our work on four interconnected pillars:
-
Support that heals and empowers survivors
-
Justice that holds perpetrators accountable
-
Awareness that prevents violence by changing minds
-
Advocacy that transforms laws and systems
This integrated approach ensures we address the crisis at every level—from the individual survivor to national policy.
OUR CORE VALUES
-
Survivor-Centered: Every decision begins with the question, "What is best for survivors?"
-
Courage: We speak truth to power and challenge harmful norms.
-
Collaboration: We believe in collective action with communities, government, and partners.
-
Integrity: We are transparent, accountable, and ethical in all we do.
-
Innovation: We constantly seek new, more effective ways to create change.
OUR IMPACT IN ACTION
Even before formal registration, our movement achieved:
-
Mobilized marches and petitions across 4 provinces
-
Established partnerships with Zambia Police (VSU), the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), and the National Legal Aid Clinic for Women
-
Developed a functional system to respond to SGBV incidents and provide referrals
-
Advocated directly to policymakers with evidence-based proposals
Today, as a registered NGO, we are scaling this impact through structured programs, a growing team, and deeper community roots.
